There were a few moments in this film where I thought Samuel Beckett had rewritten "Reservoir Dogs," but with better dialogue and more shooting. A gun deal goes south in a Boston warehouse and a bunch of criminals dressed in 70s clothes have to shoot it out. Almost all of the action takes place in the warehouse and it plays out in real time. These elements add to a somewhat conventional storyline, as does the fine cast and the groovy fashions. Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy, Armie Hammer, Sam Riley, and Noah Taylor star. Directed by Ben Wheatley, whose cockeyed take on genre films also includes "Kill List," the Ballard adaptation "High-Rise," and whatever the hell "A Field in England" was.
