At present, 2.3 million Americans are incarcerated. The United States, with a world-share of 4 percent of the human population, incarcerates 24 percent of the world's prisoners. It incarcerates its citizens in greater numbers than that of any other country, including Russia and China. This is a societal catastrophe unknown to most Americans. If you want to learn more about the subject, this two-hour documentary provides an excellent overview. As a former U. S. prisoner myself, I recommend it without reservation.
