Bizarre and Demented. Bizarre is good. Demented is not... But so goes Martin Scorsese. The acting is excellent, the cast is top notch, and I appreciate the real car chases & stunts (I did a version of what Zoë did in that chase, when I was in High School...), but the script $ucks. And the very thing Scorsese thinks is good [having Kurt Russell's character completely change, for no "sound reason", after 2 hours of defining it], is exactly what finally destroys it. I knew where he was going the second Zoë popped out of the bushes (which I expected). I just FF the rest of it, and didn't care about the car chase anymore. Hint: if you want to bring power to this phenomenal gag you're climaxing to, don't make a "thoughtful" audience not care anymore, no matter what you're doing. It's not realistic within the setting and the characters as they have been defined, by the film maker himself. The success (lack thereof) of the picture, speaks for itself, but most of these guys in Follywood (that includes the big ones), never get this. Personally, I expect more from a film, book, etc.
