When 13-year-old Jake's (Theo Taplitz) grandfather dies, his family moves from Manhattan back into his father's Brooklyn home. There, Jake befriends the charismatic Tony (Michael Barbieri), whose single, Chilean mother Leonor (Paulina Garcia) runs the dress shop downstairs. When Jake's parents Brian (Greg Kinnear) and Kathy (Jennifer Ehle) ask Leonor to pay a higher rent - and a feud ignites between the adults - the boys take an oath of silence against their parents in protest. Directed by Ira Sachs (Love is Strange, Keep the Lights On, Forty Shades of Blue) with his trademark humanism and insight, Little Men is the story of a life defining friendship amid family turmoil, and one of the best reviewed American films in years.

Utter waste of film and your time viewing such dreck. ZERO entertainment provided. Sad common story of an insipid father who inherited his father's property, and due to his inability to earn money to support his family, feels free to disrupt the livelihood of his father's beloved tenant and her son. The main disconnect here is actually believeing that any "man" who is so soft could ever survive NYC or even attract a mate, let alone breed. PATHETIC!

the sins of the parents are visited upon the children, the "Little Men", who must learn to live with the consequences - wonderful, as ever, from Ira Sachs

I accidentally checked this out after having already watching it. I didn't want to watch it a 2nd time (like all movies really) but it was good the first time.

This is a good movie! I was hoping that it played a little longer. It touches on family relationships and young friendship.

Subtle movie, gracefully done, that explores a fast friendship between two boys and the effects of gentrification. Refreshing to see a film that treats boys' intimacy and the challenges of growing up, intelligently.

The usual dilemma, to follow the heart or to use one's head? One mediocre actor Kinnear plus an annoying soundtrack.

as with Sach's last film, Love Is Strange, the New York real estate market is a character is this film.
a burgeoning friendship between Jake and Tony falls prey to the financial circumstances of their families.
issues of class, gender politics, under-employment, sexuality are all played out through the story with no explanations.
family love and loyalty can be both supportive and cruel.
4 stars for both of Sach's films

Pretty boring with no real payoff ending. The kid playing Tony was quite a good actor and we always enjoy Greg Kinnear, but that just isn't enough to recommend this movie. Whatever the critics saw to give it a high rating went right past both of us!
