I haven't taken this CD out of my car player for nearly a week, it's a perfect soundtrack for my driving life right now. The tunes are varied enough so each track stands apart. I've been binging Isbell's solo albums as well; Nashville Sound brings his great lyrics and voice together with a full band.

This album rocks harder than you would expect of something titled The Nashville Sound and certainly more than Isbell's last album (the also excellent Something More Than Free). The beautiful "If We Were Vampires" and catchy "Cumberland Gap" stand out as my favorite songs here, but I like the album a lot as a whole. There aren't any songs I want to skip over. There is currently a waiting list at Hennepin County Library for the CD, but the album is also available to download and keep at a rate of 5 songs per week through the library's Freegal subscription; find Freegal under Online Resources.

This is another fine release from Jason Isbell, well written and played by him and the 400 unit band. My only complaint about his releases is they all have some really great songs, but as a whole they are not in my estimation completely whole. I really like this performer,as a artist and as a person (I saw him on the Daily show a while back, and he is a real no bullshit kind of guy), and I expect great thing from him,but I'm still waiting for that killer release I know is in him,but he's getting closer.

This one's outta the park.
His rockers are not as well done as his quieter tunes. But his lyrics are, i dare say, stronger, more sensitive and poignant than ever,
