This is the first film I ever saw Tom Hanks in and I loved him instantly. Splash is such a wonderful film and if you are a big fan of this movie, I definitely recommend watching the featurette and the commentary on this 20th Anniversary edition. Splash is a very unique film about a bachelor who falls in love with a girl whom he meets in a rather unique way. He can't understand why she doesn't want to make a commitment, until she finds out that she's a mermaid. Chaos ensues as others find out about her true identity. GREAT movie, and even though Tom Hanks has done MANY movies since, this is one of his best!

This is a fish out water comedy. . .literally! Although I guess mermaids are mammals? It's unclear. I liked Tom Hanks when he was funny. John Candy is at his lovable, schlubby best. He and fellow SCTV albu Eugene Levy are the highlights. And, yes, "The Shape of Water" is basically the same plot. A sequel that told what happened to Hanks and Hannah would've been cool, as would have one with a merman instead. Ron Howard directs, and he and Hanks would later work on more high brown films like "Apollo 13," but this is way more fun. An 80s classic.

I watched Splash many times during the '80s. I watched it again recently, and still enjoyed it, though not quite as much as I did back then. The movie has a fun cast and story.

This movie is such a classic! Tom Hanks falls in love with a mermaid, but he doesn't know it! One of my favorite mermaid movies ever!

Kind of dated, but still fun, and Tom Hanks is such a great actor he can make you believe anything.
Well worth it to watch John Candy, especially the squash playing scene.
As a bonus, a happy ending, getting to be a rare commodity in films.
