Very good. Lots of blood and vampires. I enjoyed watching this season. Lady Gaga is amazing as the Countess.

For American Horror Story's fifth year, based on the infamous Murder Castle built by H. H. Holmes in 1893, the show heads to the legendary Hotel Cortez run by a bloodthirsty Countess who becomes connected to a homicide detective hunting for the elusive 10 Commandments Killer. The only problem is that most people who check into the Cortez never leave (just like Hotel California). Hotel is the most violent, bloody, and sexual season yet. Each scene indulges the senses from the building's lavish, art deco design to Lady Gaga's ever evolving wardrobe. I particularly loved the heart wrenching story of Liz Taylor, and Dennis O'Hare's performance is reason enough to watch this season. Since the show is set up as an anthology series, it means that not every season will work for everyone's taste. I happen to enjoy each year because American Horror Story is always fresh, relevant, and defies expectations. You never know what's going to happen. This year was no different, and I would highly recommend watching it in a single binging for maximum enjoyment.

After reading the other reviews for this, I wasn't going to post mine, but... what the hey. I actually really liked Hotel. AHS seems very inconsistent & I have mixed feelings about the seasons; I really enjoyed S1, but saw it after all the other seasons. S2 (Assylum) appealed to me heavily because of its subject matter. S3 (Coven) for me was just AWFUL. Angela Bassett was the only good thing about that one. S4 (Freakshow) was ok, but it didn't hold my attention and I never finished it. But for some reason, Hotel held me captive to the very end (which I totally LOVED). Maybe it was the eye candy & lush set, maybe it was the campy-ness of the costumes and characters, maybe it was all that blood... I will say there were a few scenes that definitely freaked me out and I can never unsee them. Despite that, I definitely enjoyed Hotel and will probably view it again in the not too distant future. And as another reviewer said, Dennis O'Hare's performance as Liz Taylor alone is worth watching Hotel for-he is so amazing.

American Horror Story: Hotel was the worst season for the show. The season is just about a murder hotel, which is kind of like season one. I think this season was supposed to be more dark and edgy, but it came off as desperate and gruesome. There was a lot of vulgar content in this season. As a fan of the series, I was so disappointed. I thought Hotel would be way better than Freak Show, but that was not the case. Although I did like Lady Gaga’s performance as The Countess, and the acting overall in the season was good. If you’re just getting into American Horror Story, I would recommend skipping this season and Freak Show, and just watch Roanoke after Coven instead.

Horrible, boring, violent. The worst of the series.
I love the previous ones but this one was a waste of time. I kept waiting for when it would get better but it never happen.

This season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY, which focused on the Hotel Cortez, was too indulgent. There is a subtlety infused in each season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY that was lacking in this one, which sent me a little off-kilter. Often there is a newbie entering the weird and wonderful world, dissecting its many kooky components with some sort of foreboding evil lurking around the corner and, together, they must defeat it or else succumb to something awful. However, the bombastic eighties theme that ran rampant through the hotel corridors infused a sense of selfishness, a sense of instant gratification, intensified by Tarantino-levels of blood mist and grotesque displays of violence combined with graphic lust and over-the-top fashion. Every. Single. Episode. With so much going on, this season lacked a central conflict, with so many subplots that it was difficult to determine what we were supposed to really be focusing on. I couldn't tell you with any substantial certainty who the main character is. In fact, they all seem to be each doing their own thing and, with so much villainy, I root for no one. Well, maybe Liz Taylor. Still, I am a huge fan of this series, just as I was with the equally twisted Ryan Murphy creation NIP/TUCK, so you'll know I'll be watching next season's ROANOKE. If you're anything like me, you'll love AMERICAN HORROR STORY: HOTEL, flaws and all. (And yes, Lady Gaga can act.)

Response to comment below ........ I liked (enjoyed) the brutality, torture, gore, blood, simulated child abuse, kidnapping, gay sex, lesbian sex, LGBTQPDIFK ? sex, forced sex, physical, mental abuses, psychotic behaviors, stabbings, shootings, mutilations, etc., etc., etc.....But the smoking !!! OMG !! Completely over the line !! ?????

Wasn't thrilled, Gaga is okay, but I hoped for more than "fashion show with Gaga", and then there's the signature of bad writing, Excessive Smoking, if you can't write any dialog for a character, then have them play with a cigarette for five minutes of screen time. There's more smoking than people dying or having sex. This could have been so much better, hope it gets better next season, or this is going to be American Horror Boring that I won't keep watching.
