The Desired Effect is an album that was inspired by the 1980s, and that inspiration is executed well. There’s no gimmick in this album, Brandon Flowers isn’t trying to be a character. He uses 80s beats and samples to accomplish a feeling of nostalgia in whoever listens to it. There isn’t one song that doesn’t belong on the album, or that hasn’t been done well. I loved him in The Killers and his previous album, but The Desired Effect is iconic all by itself. It shows a new side of him; his lyrics are as magnificent as they usually are, but it’s the music choices that he made that showed something different. It’s beautiful and powerful, all while being calming and relatable. 5/5 Stars.
