Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children was the surprise bestseller of 2011-an unprecedented mix of YA fantasy and vintage photography that enthralled readers and critics alike. Publishers Weekly called it "an enjoyable, eccentric read, distinguished by well-developed characters, a believable Welsh setting, and some very creepy monsters."||This second novel begins in 1940, immediately after the first book ended. Having escaped Miss Peregrine's island by the skin of their teeth, Jacob and his new friends must journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. Along the way, they encounter new allies, a menagerie of peculiar animals, and other surprises.||Complete with dozens of newly discovered (and thoroughly creepy) vintage photographs, this new adventure will delight fantasy readers of all ages.

This is the 2nd book in the "Novels of Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Chidren" series. It is an interesting and action packed story where 10 Peculiar children leave their island in Wales and head to war-torn London to save their headmistress, finding they are met with challenges and danger at every turn. We learn more about the children and their individual peculiarities than we did in the first book, as they fight to stay ahead of the hollows and wights, and track down the elusive Miss Wren. Teens and adults who like creepy fantasy, horror, time travel, action, and historical adventure are likely to enjoy this book. I loved it, and enjoyed the extra elements that Kirby Heyborne's reading brought to the audio version of this book.

I enjoyed this, but it had a decidedly "Empire Strikes Back" feel. Our heroes are on the run, against impossible odds, bickering among themselves, facing many delays and roadblocks, but with a few moments of respite and colorful characters along the way. Maybe it's because I listened to the audiobook, but the plot seemed to stall a lot, and get lost in exposition. All of that said, very entertaining and satisfying. I'm now listening to the third book.

Thrilling sequel with edge of your seat moments that make you love Jacob and the peculiar gang all over again. It's been a long time since a story has been unpredictable; this tale is well done on all levels.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: There are many scenes that would easily frighten younger readers or those that are particularly sensitive or suffer nightmares.

Violence: There is a lot of quite descriptive violence in this book - not suitable for younger children
