Note to VPL staff: this movie was NOT close captioned. This whodunnit definitely has the Hallmark touch. All the players are upwardly mobile, middle-class, professionals who live in an upscale housing subdivision conveniently isolated from any nitty-gritty realities of homeless persons, alcoholics or drug addicts. Judging by how much it rains in this movie this Shangri-La community of Lawrenceton might be somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. There is no sex in this drama, just a chaste flirtation between a librarian and a minister of the church. The actual murder happened two years before the movie even begins; during the run of this movie the only death (alluded to but not actually seen) is that of an elderly spinster with heart failure. As the final drama plays out, the heroine not only solves the case and busts the perps but delivers the arresting officer's baby to boot! All in all, this is a soothing, escapist parlor game movie that defies the laws of probability and is as much in touch with the harsh realities of life as the caption of a Hallmark greeting card. Definitely not a guy-movie, but it might appeal to female realtors, interior decorators and fashion designers and even a few librarians.

When Librarian Aurora Teagarden's friend Jane unexpectedly dies and leaves her everything, she also leaves a troubling murder mystery. Based on the books by Charlaine Harris.

A nice lighthearted movie that is easy on the nerve...I find it hard to get into it. I guess I was looking for something more dramatic. This is definitely a made-for-tv movie with the kinds of cuts and edits. Good pauses for commercial breaks.

This would be a good TGIF movie when one wants to ease into a relaxing weekend. A feel good type of detective movie with pleasant characters. Besides, it's always fun to try to spot local scenes; in this case, Squamish.
