George is a man whose struggle to find food and a place to sleep in New York City is beautifully captured with remarkable realism and heartrending compassion. Shuffled into the unforgiving bureaucracy of a men's shelter, George seems destined to wind up as just another lost soul swallowed up by the system, until he meets a gregarious, down-and-out ex-jazzman who inspires George to reconnect with his estranged daughter.

Gere has a hard time acting as one who is defeated. He moves, walks, watches, and talks like a well toned athlete. Did not enjoy the style of the movie - loud, disjointed side noise did not allow significant dialogue to come through well.

Some may say "nothing happens", "slow", "no plot", etc. but that is actually what much of a homeless person's life is like. And there IS a quite interesting story here along with some intriguing characters, but it will require the viewer to empathize with people who live very different lives than most of us do. And Gere and Malone were both fantastic in the last scene in the bar. But if you just want mindless entertainment, this isn't your movie.

Subtle yet moving performance by Richard Gere. Man loses everything: job, insurance, wife to cancer, mind to alcohol, home, daughter, worth, hope, time. Gives up completely. Very real movie.

Heartbreaking - it reminded me of the number of things I take for granted. In one of the final scenes at the character's point of desperation I was grateful for what I had. I'm not rich but at least I have things in hand that give me an identity. The main character of this movie was all but erased save for people seeing him. How did he get there? Results of a tragedy and poor choices. 'Except by the grace of God there go I' - and any number of us or people that we know.

The film seems tedious, noisy, crowded, confused often because action for two or three scenes are being recorded simultaneously. The obvious plan is to demonstrate that being homeless does not mean being alone. It means having no privacy and getting no attention and zero priority on one’s needs. Republicans – skip this film. You won’t get it. You already think the homeless like being this way.

Grueling. Well acted, well produced. I'll never watch it again.

While this film doesn't have a strong plot or a lot of action, it is visceral, understated, and powerful. It not only helps to humanize the homeless, but it also helps us empathize with their struggles. I disagree with the patron who says nothing happens for half an hour. The film moves slowly at first, but it remains incredibly realistic throughout. Real life is not always exciting and newsworthy, but it doesn't make our hardships any less difficult or relevant.

To the 234 people still waiting for this movie- do yourself a favor a cancel the hold. Plotless. I think it got all those Independent Film awards because it's a movie about the homeless.

If you like a long movie about some homeless guy where nothing happens in half an hour so you give up and find something else to do with yourself, you'll love this.
