Jerry Fletcher (played by Mel Gibson) is a cab driver who is in love with a district attorney by the name of Alice Sutton (played by Julia Roberts) whose father has recently been killed under mysterious circumstances. Jerry has theories about conspiracies such as political assassins, the CIA, the FBI, and he constantly talks to his passengers about them. He writes his own theories on a newsletter. Hollywood advertises political propaganda and their spin doctors prepared their audiences for the future conspiracy theorists (eg. Jesse Ventura, Alex Jones, Jim Marrs) in the next decade. This movie paved the way for conspiracies, mysteries, and cover ups and ironically people investigated and posted conspiracy blogs on the Internet something similar to Jerry. Hollywood's methods of strategy was to target its audience and influence the populace to read conspiracy theories and also manipulate the mainstream masses to oppose it. Hollywood deliberately hints the mass media hysteria and paranoia of conspiracies in our world today, which is rooted in some truth, and is now therefore distorted and confused into a mainstream fictional film. Most people may classify Jerry with OCD, but he is not a paranoid theorist, as most believe. He is a victim of trauma based mind control by the CIA and the atrocities committed on American citizens by their own government. He is a victim of MK Ultra, Operation Paperclip and mind controlled sex slaves and assassins. Jerry failed to fulfil his assignment by killing Alice Sutton's father. The perpetrators are allowed to walk free, enjoying immunity by reasons of National Security. (The National Security Act was passed around the same time the CIA was formed and Operation Paperclip occurred). Jerry tries to convince Alice that there are conspiracy theories, but she thinks that he is crazy, which is the main metaphor of the film that most people fail to believe the truth. Hopefully, this movie will get people researching of the injustice that continues to occur today. The movie had an excellent script, and the characters interacted wonderfully together, and I can't figure out why it is rated R. There is no foul language, perversion, or sex. I enjoyed this movie and I definitely recommend it for you. 5/5. @janmarrow1225 of The Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board

Before MKULTRA, there was the Bluebird Project. There is not a coincidence that Project Paperclip happened around that era. Children were not considered collateral damage, they were the target! ref. page 77 of the book, "Against Their Will, the secret history of medical experimentation of children in the Cold War American", by Allen M. Hornblum, Judith L. Newman and Gregory L. Dober. It exists today in many forms listed in the DSM Criteria to include PTSD treatment.

I have to rate this movie highly. It is a bizarre feel good movie in a way. It has peculiar twists and turns. It has the feel of an individual who is, perhaps well meaning, but let’s face it, crazy. Or is he??? Let’s go on an adventure and find out.

Mel Gibson is giving way too much and Julia Roberts is giving way too little. The combination of the two only exaggerates these problems. CONSPIRACY THEORY is a far-fetched tale of secret assassins released upon the world. There's plot-holes so wide that you can jump through them. The insanity that you have to deal with is so intense that it causes a headache in a matter of minutes. Everybody seems to have no faith in this film to carry itself, so each cast member does their best to channel what kind of film they think they're in. Julia Roberts thinks it's THE PELICAN BRIEF, moving towards a more subtle performance, whereas Mel Gibson wants a more LETHAL WEAPON level of in-your-face humour and action. Nobody seems to know what they're doing. This disorganization leads to disbelief. And in a film about a conspiracy, don't you want your audience to believe it? I definitely don't recommend CONSPIRACY THEORY.

The phenomenal Mel Gibson, superbly acting paranoid & consumed with conspiracy theory, makes the film fun to watch.
