This is a thorough book on using alternative methods to calm and cure all ailments. While some advice should be common sense, like washing your hands, most information included is comprehensive and very useful.

The section on “Comparing Conventional and Natural Medicine” is interesting and much needed. Dr. Banks includes the sage advice: people should take a proactive approach instead of reactive approach. Likewise, while either method will work, acting with the future in mind is crucial.

Part I, addresses the various methods of natural healing. Part III, addresses the Power of Tens – 10 ways to get the most out of natural medicine, 10 rules of the road and 10 natural cure maxims. However, the most useful unit of this book is Part II. Most readers will gravitate to this part because it deals with treatments and common illnesses. A helpful chapter for all parents to dog-ear is “Adjusting Dosages for Children”. All parents need to read this chapter when preparing medicine for children (conventional and/or natural).

While the appendices provide invaluable information, they may overload a beginner. There are other For Dummies books available on the subjects in the appendices (that go into even greater depth). However, for an advanced user/health care provider, having these subjects summarized in this format is superb.

This book did not provide the pull-out card that For Dummies are famous for. It would be extremely beneficial if For Dummies provided a card/small book for the medicine cabinet (because that’s where most of us automatically go to for pharmaceuticals when we are ill).
