A love story and murder mystery set against the backdrop of a New York real estate dynasty in the 1980s. Produced and directed by Andrew Jarecki (director of the Academy Award-nominated Capturing the Friedmans and producer of Catfish), this psychological thriller was inspired by the disappearance of Kathie McCormack, wife of real estate heir Robert Durst. Mr. Durst was suspected but never tried for killing his wife Kathie, who disappeared in 1982 and was never found.

I enjoyed this film. It's entertaining and keeps the suspense going throughout.

Like LPL_Sarah, watched this true-crime drama after the excellent "Jinx" documentary. In addition, new development of Robert Durst's case, see Feb 16, 2017 news report in "Summary." What a messed up rich boy gone mad tale. You have to watch the film, the on going news coverage to believe that the writers did not make up those good things gone to hell in a handbasket.

I liked the plot. The acting was good enough. This movie still falls flat because none of the characters are likable or interesting.
The cover is a good example of this movie dull and unmemorable.

Well done with Gosling's playing a character that is a departure from his usual characters. The movie has significant impact due to the real life outcomes of the events.

All Good Things is based on a real life story about a mysterious missing person case. The troubled son of a wealthy real estate tycoon gets married and moves to Vermont. There he and his wife operate a health food store. Because of financial problems the son must return to NYC to work in the family business. After several years of marriage the family scion becomes more and more estranged from his wife. When his wife goes missing the son drops out of site and his wife is never found.

Based on actual events, I think the film did a good job of telling a story, which spanned several decades. That is, I appreciate the work that went into aging the characters and changing the setting to reflect the passage of time. However, I felt that this was not material for a motion picture and that “All Good Things” should have been a made-for-TV movie (i.e. Lifetime).

“I had to. It was her or me,” Durst said, according to Chavin. “I had no choice.”
