Finding love and freedom in a pen, a paintbrush...and Paris

How much money does it take to quit your job?

Exhausted and on the verge of burnout, Janice poses this questions to herself as she doodles on a notepad at her desk. Surprisingly, the answer isn't as daunting as she expected. With a little math and a lotof determination, Janice cuts back, saves up, and buys herself two years of freedom in Europe.

A few days into her stop in Paris, Janice meets Christophe, the cute butcher down the street-who doesn't speak English. Through a combination of sign language and franglais, they embark on a whirlwind Paris romance. She soon realizes that she can never return to the world of twelve-hour workdays and greasy corporate lingo. But her dwindling savings force her to find a way to fund her dreams again. So Janice turns to her three loves-words, art, and Christophe-to figure out a way to make her happily-ever-after in Paris last forever.

This book is a joy. Interesting, with smart and wise personal reflections and very engaging. A story of love and kindness, adventure and determination, vulnerability and courage. Five stars.

First of all, let me say that I love all books based in Paris/London.
This Book is about Janice's journey from a busy life in LA to a romantic Paris dream that,
let's be honest, who wouldn't want a life like that? while reading I felt like I was walking along side Janice on the cobblestone streets of the most beautiful city in the world.

A joyous romp through Paris. When she becomes bored and overloaded from her copywriter job in California, Janice MacLeod sets out to change her life. She sells all her belongings and heads off to Paris for the year. There, she meets the wonderful Christophe, changes her life and fulfills her dreams.

This book is a gem! I don't know why it took me so long to check out this book. The majority of the books I read are travelogues AND books about Paris. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is written by a local gal raised in Norfolk County, Ontario. No folks like Norfolk.

A true story about Paris, love, travel, and changing your life all contained in a beautiful little book hiding in the art section of the library. It turns out that art is the key to the author's new life in Paris as she paints and writes about her thoughts and experiences. A sweet, interesting, refreshing read for anyone who has dreamed of living a fuller, better life from someone who actually made it happen.

This is a captivating read. I liked the conversational tone of the writing and was carried along with her decisions to change her life and her subsequent blossoming in Paris. I am amazed at how she did it and how her life has just gone from happy to happy - almost too good to be true. It is nice to read a positive piece once in a while, and the whole Paris atmosphere she describes doesn't hurt either.

This book was enjoyable and very inspiring. I don't plan to quit my job and move to Paris but some of the things she did to prepare herself for her journey are very useable. Janice is also very funny.
