Jayhawkers is an intense statement about our deep local connections to racism and segregation in the 1950s. Moments of Wilt Chamberlain’s early phenomenal basketball success are juxtaposed with heroic racial politics, but also with humor. Langston Hughes, Chancellor Murphy, and Coach Phog Allen are among the prominent figures portrayed in this movie. Director Kevin Willmott is a KU Professor of Film and Media Studies; his previous films include “C.S.A.: the Confederate States of America” and The Only good Indian”.
