Last month a paralegal working for the Justice Department was part of a mob that chased US Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen out of a Mexican restaurant. So this 2014 book is still timely, as it was Holder who turned the DOJ into a “sort of full employment program for progressive activists, race-obsessed bean counters…, and lawyers who volunteered their services during the Bush years to help al-Qaeda operatives file lawsuits against the United States” and it seems that it has kept its character after Holder’s departure. Jennifer Daskal was one of the lawyers hired by the DOJ while Holder was Attorney General who had previously helped Al Qaeda operatives. She did so as a member of Human Rights Watch and “yet she was hired to shape DOJ’s detention policy and the future of Guantanamo. Like PM Trudeau she was a big supporter of Canadian Al Qaeda terrorist Omar Khadr, claiming prosecuting Khadr would violate his rights because he was only 15 when he killed US Army medic Chris Speer. Holder undermined voting integrity as AG in a blatantly partisan effort to elect more Democrats. Among the actions the book documents was an effort to prevent the battleground state of Florida from removing non-citizens from the voter rolls. This set the stage for massive illegal voting in the 2016 US presidential election. Also, whatever an ignorant Canadian twit believes, these were not mostly votes by Canadian visitors for Donald Trump. Incredibly, Holder aggressively prosecuted a number of US banks for alleged discriminatory lending based “not on evidence of intentional discrimination, but rather on statistical evidence that supposedly shows a ‘disparate impact’ on certain minority groups.” The authors don’t comment on the irony: just as the US economy was recovering from the Great Recession, brought on by a mountain of subprime debt, the Obama administration was doubling down on one of the practices that had created that debt mountain! The book doesn’t get a five-star rating because the style is workmanlike but dull and repetitive. Also, the book really doesn’t deal with Holder the Wall Street stooge, the AG who didn’t even try to jail any of the banksters who helped bring on the financial crisis. To read about this one must turn to Matt Taibbi, who is also a more gifted stylist.

i was going to read this but after reading "gladiators" comments i declined. i suspected by the books header that it would be right wing . Holder is being talked about being asked to run for office. Actually gladiators comments were really worth reading and i suspect more interesting. I learned a lot from those comments. Thanks Gladiator!

I am no fan of this book, but it is somewhat representative of the absurd and utterly time-wasting political theater in America today - - solely intended to confuse and bewilder the masses!
Holder was important - - not that he was the first Black-American AG appointed, but the first Covington & Burling AG appointed: Covington was pivotal in the creation of MERS, the Mortgage Electronic Registry System, which saved the banksters money when they passed around all those mortgages, supposedly doing it online [they screwed that up royally, destroying 400 years of property records and therefore chain of title], but also illegally having MERS act as mortgagee, and illegally bringing action in countless fraudclosure cases.
So, let us consider: Covington & Burling represent the top banks, involved in the creation of MERS with their legal advice and opinions; has a strategic partnership with Kissinger & Associates [Henry Kissinger, right-hand man to David Rockefeller], and James Johnson, who was the CEO at Fanne Mae who pushed for those mortgage securitizations on the governmental side, enjoys a close relationship with Rockefeller and Kissinger; Johnson has long been listed as the business contact for American Friends of Bilderberg, Inc. [Directors: David Rockefeller, Henry Kissinger, Richard Perle, Jessica Mathews, et cetera]
Since ALL those mortgage securitizations were invalid and illegal [mortgages and notes were never moved into the trusts], then someone from Covington & Burling had to be appointed to run interference and damage control, so that these facts wouldn't get out in court! And, of course, the Blackstone Group, founded with Rockefeller seed money by Rockefeller protege, Peter G. Peterson, would become the largest landlord in America, purchasing 41,000 of those homes! And Obama would appoint Jami Mascik, president and vice-chairman of Kissinger Associates and former Deputy Director for Intelligence at the CIA, to his Intelligence Advisory Board.
[Oh yeah, remember that guy who led the charge in Sweden to get WikiLeaks' Julian Assange extradited? His name is Carl Bildt - - he's now with Covington & Burling!]
