The oldest of seven daughters, Ruth Schrock has grown up believing that her uncompromising deacon has never approved of her independent nature. Though devoted to her community and her faith, Ruth has always found it difficult to follow the narrow path of a deacon's daughter. Asked to teach in a nearby community, she eagerly accepts -- feeling that God has given her a chance at a life of meaning. Ruth never could have guessed that her new path would lead to shy Levi Yoder. Can these two opposites find a path they can walk together?

I can't get enough of the Amish books.
I love them and they remind me of the olden days I grew up.The are such clean books and very fascinating.

I am 24 and from a scientific background, so I was surprised how much I was drawn to this book. It is simple and sweet; at first I thought it would be too religious and possibly lame but it was neither. If you want to escape the rat-race of modern city life, here is an enjoyable story that reminds its readers of something truly basic and crucial to human happiness: positive connections with others.
