Perhaps the film-goers of 76 years ago were impressed; I'll never know. Maybe the expectations of today's viewers are too much. This one had its moments, but I was expecting greatness, being a John Ford film. Quivering-lipped Katharine Hepburn was a standout, with her Italian sidekick John Carradine (Rizzio); the material, however was somewhat weak. Contrived.
