In the third season of the HBO hit drama series Game of Thrones, the Lannisters barely hold on to the throne after a savage naval onslaught from Stannis Baratheon, while stirrings in the north threaten to alter the overall balance of power. Robb Stark, King in the North, faces major calamity in his efforts to build on his victories over the Lannisters while beyond the Wall, Mance Rayder and his huge army of wildlings continue their inexorable march south. Across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys Targaryen- reunited with her three fast-maturing dragons- attempts to raise an army to sail with her from Essos, in hopes of eventually claiming the Iron Throne. In Season 3 of this original series based on George R. R. Martin's bestselling books, the battling families of Westeros continue to clash as bonds are strained, loyalties are tested, and cruel fates are met.

Like a sugar high, this series left me feeling over-stimulated and under-nourished. The sets & costumes still carry most of the load; the actors, with the exception of Peter Dinklage (Tyrion), keep us on the outside; and the script shows George R.R. as, at bottom, a sentimentalist.

Still, bring on the next installment!

This is an intriguing series that takes hold and won't let got. I found myself turning away at the most violent scenes. It's one thing to read about violence, but to see it...well, The series deserves many of the accolades, but it's strong stuff. I didn't think there was anyone more cruel than Joffrey until this season's characters. I'm waiting with cringing anticipation for the next series.

It is rare for a great book series to be made into a great TV series, but Game of Thrones (A Song Of Ice And Fire) is doing it.
The books and the movies are not identical: they are different mediums so expect unimportant differences - but the tale told either way goes far beyond the simple Quest For The Maguffin that characterized earlier fantasy. See the videos and read the books!

I have been waiting patiently for this season to be out on DVD and I have not been disappointed. You see characters reeling from their losses and taking advantages of their triumphs. My only disappointment was not seeing the infamous battle between the Night's Watch and the White Walkers (that would of sent the show automatically into the zombie movie hall of fame). But seeing new characters and the development of old ones almost makes up for it. Also unlike season 2 it doesn't leave you hanging or asking yourself; "well is that all of it, nothing else?"
They did a great job with season 3, thanks.

Spoiler alert: it is sad How Jon Snow had to give up his love and the sad disarray of the Stark family. But at least happier endings are panning out for Daenerys Targaryen. May The Mother of Dragons sit on the iron throne!

Great season with lots of twists and surprisingly unexpected outcomes.
Thoroughly enjoyed it!

More bloodshed, political intrigue and battles among gritty depictions of the human struggle for power. The plot, based on "A Storm of Swords: A Song of Ice and Fire" thickens and getting closer to somewhere as the much tested dragon mom, Daenerys Targaryen, is poised to regain prominence in the realm -- UNLESS ...

Jorah Mormont: Have you ever seen a war in which innocents didn't die by the thousands? [Barristan remains silent, but shakes his head] I was in King's Landing after the sack, Khaleesi. You know what I saw? Butchery. Babies, children, old men, more women raped than you can count. There's a beast in every man, and it stirs when you put a sword in his hand...but the Unsullied are not men. They do not rape, they do not put cities to the sword unless they're ordered to do so. If you buy them, the only men they'll kill are those you want dead. [Barristan scoffs]
Daenerys Targaryen: You disagree, Ser Barristan?
Barristan Selmy: When your brother Rhaegar led his army into battle at the Trident, men died for him because they believed in him, because they loved him, not because they'd been bought at a slaver's auction. I fought beside the last dragon on that day, your Grace. I bled beside him.
Jorah Mormont: Rhaegar fought valiantly, Rhaegar fought nobly...and Rhaegar died.

From TV series: Tywin Lannister: What do you want, Tyrion?-----
Tyrion Lannister: Why does everyone assume I want something? Can't I simply visit with my beloved father? My beloved father who somehow forgot to visit his wounded son after he fell on the battlefield.
-----
Tywin Lannister: Jugglers and singers require applause. You are a Lannister. Do you think I demanded a garland of roses every time I suffered a wound on a battlefield? Hmm? Now, I have seven kingdoms to look after and three of them are in open rebellion. So tell me what you want.

From book: “Tywin: And you want your own reward, is that it? Very well. What is it you would have of me? Lands, castle, some office?" ---- Tyrion: A little bloody gratitude would make a nice start. --- Tywin: Mummers and monkeys require applause. So did Aerys, for that matter. You did as you were commanded, and I am sure it was to the best of your ability. No one denies the part you played ...” - See
