Absolutely love this movie! Watch it every Christmas; started watching it as a child with my parents. The singing, choreography, theatrics are wonderful, and it’s a tear-jerker too with a happy ending. Perfect casting!

I was not able to finish it due to scratches but what I did see was very entertaining. I can see why it is a classic and I can't believe I have waited this long to finally watch it. I'll have to finish it on Netflix, which I recommend if you wanted to watch it.

I finally watched White Christmas for the first time, and I liked it. The plot is thin, but the songs and dancing make up for that. I especially enjoyed Rosemary Clooney's performance. I also recently watched Holiday Inn for the first (and probably only) time, and I liked White Christmas better.

Sure "White Christmas" is corny.

And, it is, indeed, saccharine-loaded, too.

And, yes, it certainly has some really mediocre musical and dance numbers, as well....

But regardless of all of that - White Christmas does seem to succeed at what it seemingly sets out to do - And, that is - Instill (in most of its viewers) a nostalgia for more care-free times and engage in those even a little bit of the "Christmas Spirit".

I mean - How can Bing Crosby singing "White Christmas" not make you feel at least a tiny bit sentimental?

(Watch music-video of Elvis Presley (not Bing Crosby) singing "White Christmas"*)

P.S. - Gee. I wonder if VPL policewoman janice (Badge #21383) will find this movie "treacly" as well?

One of my favourite Christmas movies

VERY GOOD 1954 color (first in widescreen VistaVision) musical romance film. Interesting WWII era army elements (in an opening scene in pre-VE 1944 war-time Europe) the general declares 'There is no Christmas in the Army' while Captain Bing is putting on a show for the troops.
Lots of fun dancing/singing with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye - and I particularly enjoyed seeing Vera-Ellen (whose names appears without hyphen as Vera Ellen in opening credits). She does have an amazing tiny waist and apparently was a bit over dietary obsessed.
The post-war plot after Bing and Danny make it big on Broadway involving the Haynes sisters is fun - if somewhat dramatically weak with a bit whack plot twist when fun actress Mary Wickes as housekeeper Emma listening partially in on phone call mistakenly believes that her beloved boss will be portrayed as a pitiable figure in a nationwide broadcast and tells Betty (Rosemary Clooney) Haynes.
Of course, it all eventually works out and the film ends with the (especially amusing to me, a Vietnam Era veteran) song, 'Gee, I Wish I Was Back in the Army'. The Vermont setting/snow element adds a fun backdrop.
The film does occupy a high spot in vintage film history, is quite entertaining, and I'm glad I've now seen it.

This is one of the best Christmas movies ever! Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and Rosemary Clooney have beautiful voices that add to the delightful storyline. The message of love and reaching out is vital to the story as exemplified in how Wallace and Davis help their old General who is down on their luck. Also, the costumes and sets are beautiful--these aspects really add to the story. Then, the dance numbers are sure to leave the audience enthralled, especially the dances with Vera Ellen. This is a film the whole family can sit down and watch together.

Phil Davis: I want you to get married. I want you to have nine children. And if you only spend five minutes a day with each kid, that's forty-five minutes, and I'd at least have time to go out and get a massage or something.
Bob Wallace: You don't expect me to get serious with the kind of characters you and Rita have been throwing at me, do you?
Phil Davis: Well, there've been some nice girls, too, you know.
Bob Wallace: Oh yeah, yeah. Like that nuclear scientist we just met out in the hall.
Phil Davis: All right, they didn't go to college. They didn't go to Smith.
Bob Wallace: Go to Smith? She couldn't even spell it.
Phil Davis: Oh, that's very funny. Ho, ho, ho. The crooner is now becoming the comic.

Doris: Well, I like that! Without so much as a "kiss my foot" or "have an apple."
