It's January 1995, and Franny Banks has just six months left of the three-year deadline she set for herself when she came to New York, dreaming of Broadway and doing "important" work. But all she has to show for her efforts so far is a part in an ad for ugly Christmas sweaters, and a gig waiting tables at a comedy club. Her roommates, her best friend Jane, and Dan, an aspiring sci-fi writer, are supportive, yet Franny knows a two-person fan club doesn't exactly count as success. Everyone tells her she needs a backup plan, and though she can almost picture moving back home and settling down with her perfectly nice ex-boyfriend, she's not ready to give up on her goal of having a career like her idols Diane Keaton and Meryl Streep. Not just yet. But while she dreams of filling their shoes, in the meantime, she'd happily settle for a speaking part in almost anything and finding a hair product combination that works.

I picked up this book because I saw that it was by Lauren Graham, aka Lorelai from Gilmore Girls. The audiobook is read by her, which I enjoyed, but the book was so so, not sure I'd recommend it. I am looking forward to her memoir however.

If Lauren Graham narrated every audiobook I listened to, I would be a very happy camper. She narrated with humor and sincerity and really brought Franny and her world to life. Franny, with her dreams and insecurities, was very relatable and likeable; we became fast book friends. It was a fun book, filled with witty banter, a little romance, and more emotion than I expected.

Comment below says it's read by Lauren Graham, but it is actually her own book. Great story, fun and light hearted for a good summer read. :)

Loved it. Plus, it's read by Lauren Graham (the author and the star of Gilmore Girls & Parenthood, etc)!

Franny is full of hopes & dreams and wanting something so bad it hurts. As she realizes that she is running out of time to accomplish her dream due to a self-imposed deadline she manages to change it all around and come out on top.
