It's a long hot summer on the French Mediterranean shore and at the Perpignan police headquarters, Sebag and Molino are being slowly devoured by dull routine, petty complaints and family worries. Out of the blue a young Dutch woman is brutally murdered on a beach at Argelès, and another disappears without a trace. A serial killer obsessed with Dutch women? Maybe. But there is more to this case than anyone suspects.

This novel has been translated from French to English. For the most part the translation is good. But there are parts which are very bad, very awkward. The author or perhaps the translator also really enjoys the use of the word 'interlocutor'. This word is used over & over in the novel, very odd.

Serviceable but clunky. If you are okay with solving the mystery before the characters, it will probably keep your interest with its unusual locale and thoughtful protagonist. Lots of nagging details that the detective can't quite remember instead of real suspense.

A Dutch woman has been found dead on a beach and another has been abducted. Is this the work of a serial killer? A perfect summer thriller set in the French Mediterranean city of Perpignan.

First book in the Giles Sebag detective series set in the south of France. Serial killer is at work here or is he? Sebag is on of the few detectives who has a happy home life but is soon assailed by doubts about his wife. Pace moves alone. extremely well written, good plot and characters. Sebag is know for his intuition. Look forward to reading more in this series.

This is a great novel. It was originally written in French.
A fun read - a detective novel.
I have already read it as a friend lent it to me.
I really hope that the library will buy his second novel, Autumn All The Cats Return. It is also well-written but more serious/more intense than his first novel. I have already read it as a friend lent it to me.
