It's because of books like this that I'm glad I go the Book Club at the library. I hadn't heard of this book before, and it was an excellent read. Riveting, moving, filled with terror and hope. Well done.
Interestingly written account of the events. My sister and brother inlaw were also involved in a small plane crash in Northern Manitoba in the 70s, so the parallels made this book of particular interest to me.
I came across this as a book club pick and was surprised how little I knew about the events that took place and also how much I enjoyed this book. Well written and very interesting. Even though the topic is tragic, there were many uplifting points throughout.
i want to keep this book until june 15th
This recently published (2013), well-written book is a gripping true story about a 1984 commuter plane crash in northern Alberta. The 4 survivors~ the pilot, the author's father, a Canadian Mountie & his prisoner ~ battled injuries, darkness & sub-zero temperatures before being rescued. The latter part focuses on the profound effect it had on their lives. Kirkus Review calls it "a worthy addition to the canon of extreme-survival nonfiction" such as "The Perfect Storm" and "Into Thin Air".
Join us on Sat, Oct 19, 10:30 - 11:30 am at the Strathcona County Library in Sherwood Park as author Carol Shaben discusses her book Into the Abyss. Tickets $10/Adults $5/Students at Check Out Desk, Tix on the Square or at the door. The astonishing story of a deadly commuter plane crash in northern Alberta, and how the fight to stay alive changed the four survivors: a rookie pilot, a prominent politician, a police officer, and the accused criminal he was escorting. This is a LitFest event.
Excellent Book .. A must read for everyone to know how short & uncertain life is , & whatever the circumstances , one must keep struggling.
