B movie, script, acting, etc...

Delightful movie. Impresses on many levels. Like the director's more recent movie Tangerine, it plays with color and the landscape is a silent character. There is space and pause and it basks and reflects the light of its characters and L.A. setting.

The porn scenes are not gratuitous but integral to the telling of the story. Is it necessary to judge another's choice (whatever it may be)? Is it necessary to judge our own choices in life? The same thing that allows our movement and choices in life is the same thing that brings us all together.

This movie very cleverly - and gently - addresses social biases and judgements.

We get to know the lead character as a decent, kind, intelligent, and rather sweet individual - she takes good care of her dog (the real star of the show), she cares about her mom, she wants to do what's right after mistakenly coming into possession of someone else's money, she tries to be of help to an elderly woman who is all alone, and so on.

And then we learn she also - quite contentedly - works in the porn industry...

truly fantastic. beyond entertaining! but, honestly, never IRL. ever.

I saw this film in the theater in Portland when it was first released. I really loved the film but there was a weirdo dude in the audience making grunting sounds and saying "Oh yeah baby" to all of the sex and nudity scenes. I had to leave about 25 minutes before the film ended because he was so annoying and it was getting to the point where I couldn't hear the characters speak over his groaning. As a result, I never saw the ending and am now checking the film out from SPL to watch in the privacy of my own home where we are a bit more civilized. This was a really good film up until the point I left. I can't wait to see the ending as I always wondered what happened!

Good movie, but I agree with another comment below, much of the porn was gratuitous and not necessary - distracted from the film instead of adding to it.

I stumbled on this film by chance, and found it to be a gem from the US contemporary, independent cinema. Shot with a budget of $150K, and using little-known and amateur actors, this film is a unique and engaging human drama. It tells the story or an unlike friendship between a girl in her 20's, and a lonely widow in her 80's. Although at times it appears long and aimless, the film is well directed and well acted. As a bonus, you also get a chance to have a glimpse into the California porn industry. I personally find it interesting. Lots of extras here too. Very good materials for budding directors and actors to explore, digest and learn from.

I like the Jane and Sadie story line. the annoying friends, swearing and porn - not so much. despite the description here that Sadie may be Jane's 'way out', there is no indication in the movie that she is even aware that getting out might be a good idea. the final scene is very touching.

This is a quiet & touching film. The explicit porn scene may have been unnecessary and I hoped for the character that she somehow decided that she would no longer engage in that.

It's an OK movie, there is some good acting ( Melissa is very, very convincing as a super annoying girl:)
But that porn scene spoiled everything, it was not needed there at all. If one wants to watch a porn movie ( full male frontal, penetration etc.) one doesn't usually go to the public library. Beware If you plan to watch a movie with relatives or students. There was no warning on the dvd-box, if it were it was covered by the library sticker. I wonder why...
"Congratulations", OPL with your movie choices, way to go.
