Pleasant movie, but not much there story-wise. Joan Blondell is the star of the flick and gets top billing over John Wayne. The Duke doesn't do much in this film, in reality, any actor could have carried his role.

I loved this movie. Sensitive people should abstain and watch something more to their taste.

This was a Republic Pictures class B comedy/drama/musical about the divide between the gentry and the common folk of Tennessee southern society after the Civil War. I give it an extra half star because it reveals the racism of Hollywood where the African-Americans are shown as stereotyped subservient fools (buffoonery) unequal to the whites and kept segregated in separate sections of entertainment facilities, the courtroom, and in song and dance routines. There is even one of those disgraceful Negro servant statuettes for a brief moment in one of the scenes.
