Watchable. Big sets but lame plot.

AKA Black Gold. I am a sucker for a good story and this was about the start and finish of the unifying war on oil development with the West vs tradition religious values in the Middle East during the early 1930's. The love story, Quran quotes and search for water fit nicely as well.

One of the better movies available. Epic production, very good story, strong performances from the cast.

This film is unique in that it shows Arabs as people and respects Islam as a religeon ! It has echos of the sci-fi classic 'Dune',.. since the Spice is obviously oil. It was facinating to see an action film from another cultural perspsctive.

lavish production for a very mediocre story

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. Not too bad---good performance.

Very interesting and realistic fiction on the begining of Oil exploration from the Tribal ( Bedouin) historic point of view.

Auda: My father always urged me to read the Quran. So I am surprised that the vulnerable men of faith whom I see gathered here, are unanimously calling for war ... To the father who seems, blinded by war? To remind this God Fearing man. that in the Holy Quran, the word "PEACE", is mentioned twice as much, as the word "WAR"?
===========
Auda: If ALLAH had not wanted the oil for the Arabs. Why did he put it under the soil?
Tribal leaders: Allah put it there but if he had wanted the Arabs
to use it, he would have said so in the Quran.
Auda: But he didn't forbid it in the Quran. I think its very likely he put oil in the ground, So it riches may improve our lives.
Tribal leaders: What matters, is eternal life in the here after. Life here on earth is not to be improved,it is just pleating pleasure.
===========
It is said that every man has three tasks to accomplish in this world.
To plant a palm tree, to dig a well...and to father a son.
