Post-modern, complex, funny and multi-layered, this novel draws parallels between being a medium and being a writer. Although emotions are gradually revealed, as a reader I was not engaged by the characters. It is an interesting and unusual book, well worth making the effort to read.

I'll be the middle-of-the-road review. I didn't hate this book, but I kept putting it down because I didn't feel very compelled to finish it either (but I did!). It wasn't the writing style, but my lack of attachment to any of the characters. Except Bunny and Francis. They were sweet.

Darkly funny and cleverly crafted, Scottish author A.L. Kennedy's The Blue Book offers sharp and tender insights into human nature. I read passages aloud to anyone who would listen. By the end, my copy fluttered with sticky notes marking favourite parts.
