Her childhood had been a nightmare of violence and pain until she heard his voice calling out to her, golden and seductive. The voice of an angel. He had shown her how to survive, taught her to use her unique gifts, trained her in the ancient art of hunting the vampire. Yet he could not bend her to his will, no matter how great his power.

Mary Ann Delaney ---a minor character-- in " Dark Destiny"-- was the first African-American woman I've been aware of in Christine Feehan's Dark Carpathian series. I enjoyed her courageous spirit and the ways she dealt with her new-found knowledge of the exisitence of the Carpathian people, and...the evil Vampires. Also, I enjoyed reading about her in some of the other books in the series.

I really liked all the different characters of the people in the town ;-)
And how Destiny is such a strong hunter herself, even if how she became that way was terrible.
