Turok explores the transformative scientific discovers of the past three centuries, from classical mechanics to the nature of light and the evolution of the cosmos, and shows how they created shifts in the organization of society. A brief overview of some aspects of the history of physics. There is a too much of the author's philosophy to make this strictly a science book. It is a quick read and worthwhile if interested.

Turok's book is entertaining (to be expected, as it is his Massey Lectures), but his arrogance is irritating. For example, he makes his personal speculative ideas (such as what can be known about a supposed time "before" the Big Bang) sound like sage wisdom. It seems to me that he also overestimates what physics (in the future) will be capable of explaining about the universe. He also presents his philosophical ideas as if they were science. In my view, "A Briefer History of Time" is a far better book.
