Dresden Files is one of those fantasy series that seems to polarize readers. For me, Harry Dresden is a fantastic character and it is exciting watching each new novel as he grows as both a detective and wizard. While most of the series titles are in the 300-400 range, the last few have broken thr... Read More »

Every book of this series Dresden seems to get an overwhelming number of problems thrown his way that he must solve immediately if not sooner. This one continues that trend and somehow ups the stakes substantially beyond what was on the line in any previous books. There are basically non-stop intense twists and turns and urgent problems Harry Dresden has to deal with or millions will die including all his friends and loved ones. It didn't go the way I thought it would which was great. The many twists and turns are easy to follow and don't seem convoluted. The plot also brings into the open a few things hinted at in earlier books. There is starting to be payoff for things established in earlier books like the Paranet. It's a solid addition to the series.

My most favorite series. Harry Dresden the only wizard that advertises in the Yellow Pages and conducts his business in Chicago is a very interesting character. If you have been following him from the very first book in the series "Storm Front" you'll know that Harry transforms. He becomes a very complex character who struggles to become a better man, despite many obstacles. His choices can affect many people close to him as well as others. At times he makes choices that seem like a good idea but create more problems than solutions. He gets tangled up in Faerie business, in mob business, in police business, and having to watch out for someone that could get both of them killed by the White Council. Each book is full of twists and turns which all together take you on a wild ride with the "stars and stones" wizard. Each book is better than the last with the exception of "Ghost Story" which is not the strongest one. With each glimpse into the life of Harry you learn how much strength it takes to use supernatural powers for good and not just good intentions. How much strength it takes to stand up to those who step on others. He will always be a chivalrous guy even though the world around him is not. Dresden Files are amazing books for the simple fact that one can relate to the characters, one can cheer for them, sometimes even for the obvious bad guy. Dresden Files are full of strange beings, strange customs, strange worlds, all existing along side of the normal world. Read the first and keep on going because soon you'll find yourself whishing and hoping for the one that has not been written yet.

This is one of my favorites of the series so far. Butcher is a master of twists in his plots.

I've always enjoyed this series. Nice, easy, light reading. Nothing that engages the brain too much. That may seem like a criticism, but it really isn't.

Quite seriously one of the best series I have ever read. Jim Butcher's character Harry Dresden is fair dinkum mega fantastic. If you knew what was good for you, you would read every one of these books, this book Cold Days is number 14. Start at the beginning with Storm Front, believe me each book gets better and better. Jim's writing is WOW!!

Really enjoyed this one, there were several times when I laughed out loud. Updates some of the character stories without overdoing it. There was one kind of preachy bit dealing with same sex marriage that seemed really unnecessary, but other than that I saw nothing wrong.
