Riveting... Dramatic... More Rewarding than the "original" movie (yes, there was the "Sparkle" done in the '70s or '80s with Irene Cara in the title role). Whitney Houston's final performance was "spectacular"! Jordan Sparks' (get it "sparks", "sparkle") performance was "amazing" as well. By the way, both "Dreamgirls" and "Sparkle" was inspired (if not loosely based on) by the secret-behind-the-scenes exploits of Motown's early Detroit days. -- Mark A. Payne

I saw the movie and I had liked it this is based on a true story
not for children to watch

The movie is worth watching for Whitney Houston, her performance is outstanding! The movie is entertaining, but there is no comparison to Dreamgirls.

Having never saw the original, this was a first time impression. The story was decent, one that has been told before on film, but well written and directed, so it was entertaining to watch. Unfortunately, the ending was pure Hollywood. Good performances by Whitney Houston, Mike Epps, Tika Sumpter and Carmen Ejogo. Jordin Sparks is cute but acting-wise, this appears to her first movie.

Above average black musical drama. Not an actual musical where everything is sung, but very music intensive. The dramatic elements are almost shallow melodrama, but the movie is well acted (especially by Mike Epps who really breaks out in this acting-wise). The music and the performances are worth a watch. Jordin Sparks is lovely.

Dreamgirls was a much better movie than this

From the very beginning the film left loose ends. The gestures and speech were more "2008" than "1968." Action_wise it was good. The music could have been better. The soul was lacking. These actresses obviously didn't anything about "being uptight, living in a world of ghetto life." The biggest problem was the message for young girls to folllow their dreams in the music business. Pure devil's bidding.

I have made it very simple in this house: Respect, getting an education, and having a relationship with the Lord.
