If you like movies about Mexican drug cartels, you will probably enjoy this film which has a lot of violence and sex in it. Like the title suggests, you as the viewer must decide who the real savages are in the on-going drug war and what it means to be a savage. Big budget, glossy Hollywood version of the two surfers-turned-entrepeneur good guys and their live-in lover growing premium medical marijuana and the black market that wants to undermine their legitimate business. I recommend the unrated version. Salma Hayek has a juicy role in this film.

Salma Hayek playing the evil but sexy drug king (I mean) Queen-Pin,all the dope coming into Anerica;blame the DEA,The CIA,FBI and the Mexican Mafia for letting the smack into America.Law Enforcement is being paid off to let the stuff into America.Savages-Benicio Del Toro-Weasel,John Travolta-Hyena.

This movie was a good movie. It may not not have been an A-List movie. However it was alright though. My favourite scenes in the movie was Scene 12 and Scene 13. It had an all star cast. The girls I found attractive in this movie were Selma Hayek,Karishma Ahluwalia,Amber Dixon Brenner and Sandra Echeverría. The actors did a fantastic job with their roles. Correction to IMDB it was Sandra Echeverría in that love scene with Trevor Donovan not Selma Hayek.

The drug war bled savages whose appalling brutality were no less gruesome than ISIS. But even savages have Achilles heels that made them vulnerable to their enemies. While the Laguna Beach connection in a drug war is unique and intriguing, it is not as "savage" as another drug war film Sicario, 2015 which also starred Benicio Del Toro as a ruthless killer.

Say what you will about Oliver Stone (like he's a bombastic, left-wing nutjob), he rarely makes boring movies. For a while (mid-80s to mid-90s), he was America's most consistent provocateur, making unapologetically political films about Vietnam, JFK, and serial killers. He wanted to piss you off and even if you didn't like him, he was hard to ignore. But he seemed to burn himself out on controversy and ended the 90s with a dusty neo-noir ("U Turn") and a football movie ("Any Given Sunday"). Although he returned to political subjects (9/11, George W. Bush), he hasn't been able to rekindle the same flame. "Savages" is an over the top, hyperactive, violent drug movie that recalls "Natural Born Killers," but without that film's veneer of satire. 3 independent pot growers/dealers go up against a Mexican cartel and things get nasty. When the movie's on, it's a pulply, nihilistic rush, but it's uneven, miscast, and, like so many of Stone's movies, too long. This includes an unrated director's cut that is 10 minutes extra. The three leads are plenty good looking, but lack charisma. The villains, played by Benicio Del Toro (recalling his "Sin City" baddie) and Salma Hayek, are far better. John Travolta, sans hair piece, gives one of his best performances in years as a fed playing both sides. I wouldn't call it a good movie and Stone botches the ending, but I also wasn't bored. "Traffic" came to mind a few times, as did "Scarface," which Stone wrote.

Violence: The first scene involves a man who had claimed to have betrayed his syndicate has his face bloodied, with pieces of skin and tissue peeling off from chunks of his face. One piece is seen to drop on the floor in front of him. This sequence ends with the man being torched alive.

Not in IMDb yet:

Dennis: If you want to see the real crooks, the real pros, just turn on the fxxking TV. Yeah. We've made heroes of whores. A nation of whores. Wall Street. Washington. Those bastards make what I do out here look pathetic. If they woke up with my job, with my life, with my salary, they'd be looking for the nearest gun to swallow.
===
O: I looked up the definition of ”savage.” It means, "Cruel, crippled." ”Regressed back to a primal state of being.” One day, maybe, we'll be back. For now, we live like savages. Beautiful savages.

O: I have orgasms. He has war-gasms.

Chon: So, I read up on your Buddha. According to the Dalai Lama, if you are in a position to prevent greater violence, strike first and strike fast.

Elena: You see how I never laugh and I never cry? Well, that's because I have Botox of the heart.

Many quotes in IMDb as these:

Chon: I think, basically, you want us to eat your shit and call it caviar.

O: [voice-over] It started here in paradise, Laguna Beach, where they say God parked himself on the seventh day, but they towed him on the eighth.
===
Chon: Grow up Ben. You don't change the world, it changes you.
===
Elena: If the mountain doesn't come to Mohammed, Mohammed comes to California.
===
Ben: That was Mexico, this is Laguna. The cops wear shorts and ride bicycles.
===
O: [voice-over] Call me O. I was named after Ophelia, the bipolar basket case in Hamlet who committed suicide. So I cut it down to just O.
===
Lado: Stop begging! You sound like a woman...
