OKAY film version of the opera. There are lots of fine qualities to the filming, but there was too much disconnect between the opera soundtrack singing and the mouthed parts of the actors, even all the recitatives (for me) - only made it through Act 1.
Perhaps I should be looking for (currently no copy at KCLS) the 1959 Otto Preminger film.

It's a fair version of Porgy&Bess, but has a lot of troubles. First is something that no colored person could address...as no colored person under 30 would get the story, or understand the story, because West Coast Black people would not be able to understand the dialect. As well as the fact that the amount of readers that are people of color are negligent in terms of understanding what happened in the Souf Eas when this Gershwin opera was written. BUT it's an achingly beautiful piece of music. =)
