Probably the best written biography I ever read... and I read a lot. She is an excellent writer. The subject extraordinary. I was sad to read its last line!

A lovely biography, as a massive Leonard Cohen fan I found the book delightful and revealing. After reading it I'm an even bigger fan. The book reads easily, is insightful and entertaining. A definite 5 star work.

ring the bells that still can ring, forget your perfect offering, there is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in. Simmons looks through the cracks at how Cohen lets the light into his lyrics and music.

Sylvie Simmons is an excellent biographer. She has the fan's knowledge and ardour for her subject - but also a cool journalistic instinct. The combination of the two makes for a compelling read on one of the great geniuses of our time.

After 3 years of research and interviews with colleagues, former lovers, family and friends, Simmons finally got a personal interview with the man himself.

The result is this beautifully crafted in depth look at the soul of a soulful man. Simmons has set the bar high; she’s a long term music journalist and rock ‘n’ roll detective. She gives us an intimate portrait of the man; probably revealing more than the man himself wanted to reveal.

I’m Your Man has been called the music book of the year AND the biography of the year. It deserves both accolades.

"Exploring the many facets of Cohen's life, this intimate portrait of one of the most important and influential songwriters of our time draws upon his private archives and a wealth of interviews with many of his closest associates, colleagues and other artists whose work he has inspired." Incredible. I saw him LIVE for the first time 12/20/12 in Brooklyn, NY. Truly a mystical, revered and almost religious experience. I prepared myself for this concert by reading this book. Even my 27 year old son, who 's favorite genre of music leans towards rap/death metal was spellbound by the performance. He left as a fan of Leonard. How is it that a 78 year old man's music
can do this? He's a genius, that's why!!!

This book should be on every boomer's reading list. An exhaustively researched and well-crafted biography. Cohen pursued his personal and spiritual journey in a most public way, from the adolescent awkwardness of his early work to the universal anthems of his later years. Simmons manages to connect his art and life in ways that illuminate the man, without diminishing him. Not a critical biography, but will do until one comes along.
