Fans of "hard-boiled" fiction and historical mysteries alike will relish in Skin Deep, Blood Red. The well-paced plot and exquisite character development keep the narrative humming along like an effortless melody. However, Skinner’s attention to historic detail and knack for conveying both the specific place and feel of 1936 New Orleans adds a layer of realism and authenticity to the tale missing from many similar works.
