Thornford Regis has never been lovelier: larks on the wing, lilacs in bloom, and the May Fayre in full swing. But inside the empty village hall, the huge Japanese o-daiko drum featured in the festivities has been viciously sliced open-- and curled up inside is a bludgeoned body. Father Tom Christmas, still haunted by the tragedy that has left him a widower and his nine-year-old daughter motherless, soon realizes that this idyllic village is not the refuge he'd hoped for... and that Sybella's killer must be one of his parishioners.

I enjoyed this book as well as the other 2 in the series, I wish there were more. If you love an English cozy mystery with a vicar in a small village, well --- here you are! It's definitely got a lot of atmosphere.

Well written mystery set in rural England. The main character is a church of England priest who is quite a lovable fellow. He eventually solves two murders that took place in their small village. I really liked the writing, the story, and the characters. I will definitely read more of his work

This mystery seemed to lack genuine British flavor.

This story introduces vicar Tom Christmas and his daughter Miranda who have moved to the apparently idyllic village of Thornford Regis after the still unsolved murder of his wife. Appearances are deceiving as a young woman's body is found during the May Fayre and other minor mysteries start to take on more significant meaning. Tom is drawn into the investigation as part of his ministry to his parishioners and villagers. An unconventional reluctant sleuth and a cast of characters form the basis of this series; I am looking forward to reading more stories.

I thought this was an excellent mystery, and I will definitely read more. One of the better Canadian writers in this genre.
