When a violent confrontation with José María's foreman results in the other man's death, José María flees to the mansion where Rosa works, telling no one. Columbian migrants José and Rosa are having trouble fitting into Spanish society. His violent temper has put him on the wrong side of his construction foreman and she is earning minimum wage as a live-in maid for the wealthy Torres family while fending off the sexual advances of Alvo, their boorish son. But when José finds himself on the lam after accidentally killing his boss he decides to hide out in the only safe place he knows--the mansion where Rosa works. Here, unbeknownst to either his girlfriend or her employers, Jose settles into the largely unused upper floors of the stately old home: stealing food from the kitchen, calling Rosa using the phone in the guest bedroom, and eavesdropping on the family's day to day dramas. His clandestine existence is threatened however after he receives a couple of shattering revelations regarding Rosa, one of which brings his temper to the boiling point. Anger and desperation eventually lead José down a very dangerous path which will not only threaten his future but those of Rosa and the Torres family as well who are unaware of the rage growing just above their heads. Not sure what director Sebastián Cordero was aiming for with this gothic thriller which is heavy on the atmospherics (kudos to the trained rats) but comes up woefully short on logic. Is it supposed to be a head piece using a compartmentalized house to reflect the protagonist's fractured psyche? A sociopolitical statement decrying the treatment of immigrants (the "unwanted guests" in our midst)? Or just a misguided attempt at maintaining suspense by asking the audience to take a few leaps of faith? Despite some tight camerawork which rarely leaves the front door and lighting that juxtaposes sunny exteriors with dusty attics, it amounts to little more than a telenovela weeper with a teary ending so over-the-top the DVD should have come with a complimentary box of kleenex.

The premise is somewhat implausible, but the film speaks to the invisibility of the lives of migrant workers.

Not quite the ending I imagined. Very engaging movie!

Sebastián Cordero has served up a satisfying mix of Gothic, romance and thriller . Jose Maria is a hotheaded construction worker who accidentally kills his foreman and Rosa is modest maid working for a patrician doctor. Martina García and Gustavo Sánchez Parra are very good as doomed lovers. As in Cronicas, Cordero has tempered his tail with sharp social comment. Their status as recently arrived immigrants to the city means the lovers must navigate a social and economic world in which their powers are limited to their wits.

This story is about two young migrant workers, from Colombia, making a living in Spain and facing discrimination. They are in love and yearn for better days. The man is in a state of rage most of time - guess that's where the name comes from - and in excess. While well told, the story in not very engaging and one can lose interest fast. Spanish with English subtitles.

I enjoyed the movie, even if there is something irrealistic when somebody can spend days in a big house and nobody knows. Overall good movie

This movie is very well made. It follows a couple in the initial honeymoon phase of their relationship. The girlfriend is pretty, hard working and doing her best to live her life. The boyfriend is a bit more complicated. The male character Jose Maria is both admired and hated for his actions, but he is ultimately a tragic figure. The acting is great the story is fantastic and the movie keeps you interested from start to finish. This is worth watching especially if you like Spanish and/or foreign films.

"Rage" could be retitled "From Heavenly bliss to Hell in a hurry." Hard to believe that anger could become so catastrophic for all concerned.

Oozing with rage from start to finish...a paean to the subject. Beautifully crafted!
