Asked to join the Clearview Barbershop Chorus, Sheriff Dan Rhodes suspects an ulterior motive - mainly because he can't sing a note. Shortly afterward Lloyd Berry, the director of the chorus, is murdered. Berry was suspected of embezzlement, and had also spread the word that a chorus member ordered a singing valentine for a woman who wasn't his wife. Rhodes must deal with the usual assortment of small-town crimes while trying to solve the murder.

I'm on page 173 of 279 and I don't remember ever being less interested in how the storyline is resolved. This novel has developed no dramatic tension, just some haphazard elements of very little interest or coherent development. I might read through to the end, but basically nothing so far has indicated it would be worth my while. Perhaps this author is noteworthy for revving things up in the last third of his books. I commend the author for seeing his works through to completion, but that's about it.
