Yes you are definitely confused. See below.

The Gods Must Be Crazy is a 1980 South African comedy film written and directed by Jamie Uys. Financed only from local sources, it is the most commercially successful release in the history of South Africa's film industry. Originally released in 1980, the film is the first in The Gods Must Be Crazy series.

This movie is definitely a product of Amblin Entertainment (Steven Spielberg’s) and Disney Studios teaming up. It has the feel of the old Disney type adventures and an Indiana Jones quality to it. While it does have a certain light hearted humor about it at times, the movie definitely contains violence. But none of it, even with the animals, is shown directly and there is little blood. It is kind of funny to see Reese Witherspoon so young. And it was a real treat to see the star from the critically acclaimed movie “The Gods Must Be Crazy” again. It is a little confusing though because in that movie he played an Australian aborigine (I think) and in this movie he is playing an African, still speaking the same language where he clicks his tongue while speaking. He is still sweet and charming though. [If you want to see a wonderful and cutely humorous family film I would highly recommend “The Gods Must Be Crazy”!] The acting is pretty good and the locations are interesting and well shot. The plot does get a little unrealistic at times. But all in all it is a descent family film. And it has a good ecological message.
