When Wynter Roth is turned out of New Earth, a self-contained doomsday cult on the American prairie, an outbreak of rapid early onset dementia is spreading across the nation. As Wynter finds herself face-to-face with the apocalypse she's feared all her life, her sister arrives with a set of medical samples. There's something far more sinister at play -- and these samples are key to understanding the disease. To get the samples to a lab in Colorado, Wynter takes up with former military man Chase Miller, who has his own reasons for getting close to the samples... and to Wynter herself. -- adapted from jacket

I started reading this book in Jan 2020 when the Wuhan coronovirus first started making headlines. At the time of writing this review, 13 countries have confirmed cases and China reports almost 2,000 people sick with 56 deaths. So, reading a story about the spread of a rapidly spreading disease that mimics early-onset dementia doesn't seem all that far-fetched.
This is the first Tosca Lee novel I've read, but it definitely won't be the last. Tosca is a great writer who can keep a reader up way past her bedtime with a powerful and fast-paced story, fascinating characters, an interesting look into cult society, and a view of how civilization could unravel with a serious outbreak of a deadly virus.
Highly recommended!

This is everything I want in a quick weekend read. There's the cult, climate change, relationships, impending pandemics; all requiring huge decisions be made under intense pressure. It's smart and engaging.

This is a good dystopian thriller, I'm excited to see how it will end. I enjoyed how Lee kept the reader engaged in the story.

This is an interesting mix of Cultism and post apocalyptical genre. While no new ground is really covered, the juxtaposition of the two made it fresh for both. The back story of the cult is scattered through new chapters without a clear timeline, so sometimes it takes a few paragraphs to figure out where we are. It appears to be the beginning of a new series an thus delving deeper into the science fiction side of the story. I look forward to new books in the series.
