We love anything about the sea and this film was one of them. A moving tail (Tale) and well acted, it kept us on the edge of our seats. Entertained and thats all tht matters really.

Had a hard time with the slang and speech style that just would not have existed back then. Not to mention that my husband swears he heard Chris Hemsworth say “turn left!” in one scene - as a mariner, he definitely would NOT have said…

Very disappointed. Not interesting to me at all, even though the topic sounded so thrilling. The extreme close-ups and obvious CGI just didn't grab me at all. A definite NO from me.

Docudrama based on a nonfiction book by Nathaniel Philbrick. The "facts" are somewhat different in each but the feeling and storyline are similar. The whaleship Essex was stove by a whale in 1820 and Herman Melville was so taken by the…

A nice movie about how MOBY DICK was inspired through a tale. The story itself is about 75% historically accurate. A lost at sea survival- adventure movie after their boat is smashed by a giant sperm whale. I liked it. YOU may too!

If there were more scenes involving whales and their fight for survival, this one would have been a lot better. It also could be cut by at least 30 minutes if the precious blather / endless cliches were reduced.

I loved this movie, Based on the Moby Dick story --- there is a lot of action and adventure. The leading actor/character gives an outstanding performance.

I read the book first and found it a little boring, slow moving, and somewhat technical (I knew nothing about ships) but the movie was much better. Like most books of course, there was a lot more detail -- about the suffering described…

I recently borrowed The Whale DVD and just finished In the Heart of the Sea DVD. Both films are about the Essex a whaling ship from Nantucket in the 1820s. They are searching for whales since whale oil is a primary source for light in…

I thought I would love this, but I was sorely disappointed! I'm glad I didn't spend the big $$ to see it in theatres & instead waited to borrow it from the library!

Despite all the visual effects, sudden camera edits trying to create action and phoney glorified music, there's nothing really catchy about this flick. Lots of gory scenes of slaughtering and chopping off whales and the usual Hollywood…

Movie is supposed to show us the true back story that was the inspiration for Moby Dick. Not well enough educated in the topic to know if it was or not. It is always difficult for me to watch movies about whaling. This was no exception.…
